Tip Tuesday: Closing Day

I hope you've followed my home buying series, but in case you haven't, here's a final recap:

Your Offer Was Accepted, Now What? explains your first steps after you get an accepted offer.  It's a LOT of small stuff, so make sure you're meeting those deadlines.

Next Steps In The Buying Process outlines insurance quotes, attending inspections and other items for preparing to move.

The Home Stretch In Home Buying talks about the last days leading up to the closing.

And now we've made it, it's closing day!

Real Estate Loan Pre-Application Checklist - County FCU

Your lender will let you know when and where the closing is and a final amount on how much money to bring to the table.  She should have given this information to you a few days ago, but that number is subject to change up until the day of closing, so if you don't hear from her the day before, double check.

Your Realtor should reach out to you the day before to remind you of what to bring.  What is that, you may ask?

  • A certified or cashier's check in the amount your lender gave you
  • A valid photo ID
  • A copy of the purchase agreement (contract), although your Realtor should have this for you
  • Proof of homeowner's insurance, although your lender should have this for you
  • Maybe your lucky pen?

Chapter 47 Explains What a Real Estate Closing Attorney Does

You've already done all the hard stuff, so this day is that simple.  It's all about you and your new home, so enjoy it!  Honestly, your Realtor's only role at closing is to be there for any questions you have, so don't hesitate to speak up.  She loves helping or she wouldn't have chosen this job, so take advantage of all that knowledge.  Just don't forget to leave her a review when you're done!
