Feature Friday: Sushi Samurais
So here's the deal - Feature Friday is late this week. I started writing around 10:00 this morning and here it is 9:10pm and I'm just now sitting down to finish my article. Want to know why? It had been a while since we'd been to Sushi Samurais, so I was having to dig for pictures. And of course, each one looked more delicious than the last. The more I wrote and the more pictures I found, the more I wanted sushi! So, Hubs and I finished work for the day and started our 52 mile, 50 minute (each way) treck to Sushi Samurais. You're probably also wondering why I haven't found a sushi place closer to Batesville when I always talk about eating local. Trust me, I've tried. But Sushi Samurais truly is #worththedrive
Hubs and I do not celebrate what we call the Hallmark Holidays, but on Valentine's Day 2014 we actually went out to a nice dinner. We were both working in the same part of town, which happened to be almost an hour from home, so we rode together anytime we could. Cincinnati drivers are the worst so when it started snowing we agreed a good way to avoid the snowy rush hour craziness was to stop for dinner somewhere near work. I jumped on Groupon just looking for something close and different and found Sushi Samurais. And the rest, as they say, is history.
Sushi Samurais doesn't have much information on their website or Facebook page, but we've had the honor of getting to know our favorite server, Nay Chi, over the past 6 years and have loved learning about her, her family and the business. Nay Chi, her husband and their family opened Sushi Samurais in 2013 and have been serving the best sushi in Cincinnati ever since.
In addition to their traditional sushi menu, Sushi Samurai has a pretty significant variety of appetizers, a few delicious hot entrees and soups and two things that I find especially compelling.
The first is the Sushi Burrito. Yes, you read that right - a burrito made of sushi! They're great for eating sushi on the go (hello, carryout) and so delicious! The second is a half price menu. This makes Sushi Samurais not only the best sushi around, but very reasonable, too! This is all off the half price menu
Even with all these options, my favorite is the surprise roll. It is different every time, because the Itamae (sushi chef) gets a chance to show off his skills with different rolls that are not on the menu. The really neat thing is when you're a regular and they learn your likes and dislikes. Our favorite Itamae works really hard to make it special every time and really impress us.
A surprise roll, our favorite way to order!
Generally Sushi Samurais is open Monday through Friday 11:00am-10:00pm, Saturday 1:00pm-10:00pm and Sunday 3:00pm-10:00pm but they are currently open for carry out only, from 5:00pm-9:00pm
