Feature Friday: Girl Scouts
I know what you're thinking. Really, Karen? Girl Scouts? What does this have to do with Real Estate?
But something you are probably considering in your home search is what the area has to offer to you, your family and your guests. You may be looking for a school with high ratings (Batesville has great schools, by the way), restaurants (we've got those too!) or a good gym (I've never been but I hear good things), but are you thinking about community involvement? About ways for your kids to meet new friends outside of school? About ways for YOU to meet new friends outside of work?
Wow, I just threw a lot of questions at you! So here's the thing - in my humble opinion, there are two important things to make an out of town move, even just to the next town over, go smoothly. One is a good Realtor and the other is having an activity or organization that provides some consistency in the transition.
In some moves, you stay at the same job and your kids stay at the same school and all that has really changed is the neighborhood. In others, you may move across the state, the country or even the world and knowing there will be something familiar can be the peace of mind you need to make that leap.
A friend of mine is a military wife and moves with her husband and their four daughters every two years. The girls change houses, schools and friends but the one thing that never changes is their involvement in Girl Scouts. Everywhere they go, my friend finds local Girl Scouts and gets the girls into a troop. It gives them a sense of consistency, a place to belong and a great way to meet people they know have a lot of the same values and sense of adventure. Because Girl Scouts is an international organization, the girls even have opportunities when their dad is stationed overseas.
As a volunteer for our local Girl Scouts I think it's incredibly important to give girls this opportunity to get involved, meet new people and learn a LOT along the way. Even if a troop isn't for your girl, we offer day camps, one day events, overnight camps and so much more. When you're looking at moving to a new town, there is so much more to consider than just the house. As a Realtor, my job is helping you find your dream house, but my passion is helping you find your home - house, school and community!
