What's in a Home?
About a year and a half ago, Hubs and I purchased what we thought at the time could potentially be our forever home. The house and property checked every single item on our wishlist...except location. We said we wanted to be within 30 minutes of my parents and this house is 45. What's 15 minutes, right?
Fast forward living through a car accident, a pandemic, loss of several loved ones and health issues and it turns out that 15 minutes can make a world of difference. While we love our house and our community, we've learned that for us, being close to family is way more important.
So we're going tiny! As you can see, the dogs love it :-) We've started the downsizing process and are putting a lot of our physical belongings up for sale. Our tiny home is in the shop getting some upgrades and we'll personalize it once we get it, which should be in a few weeks. Once it's ready I'll put our house on the market. I can't wait to make the move!
I have always said there's no such thing as the "perfect house" and you have to find one that checks the most important boxes because the others can be altered. For example, if your dream house has 3 bedrooms and an office but you find a house with 4 bedrooms, you turn that 4th bedroom into an office and you're set. The most important part of that is knowing what can be altered versus what you'll have to live with no matter what, and whether you CAN live with those things. Like location.
As a Realtor, I very much believe in the need for your own space that you can customize and earn equity instead of paying rent. I also believe that HOME looks different for everyone, and it's more important to have a space that belongs to you than it is for that space to be a certain size or look a certain way.
Curious about our tiny journey? I'm hoping to do a full blog series, but I'l definitely have information on Instagram, so make sure to follow me there! @kpcrealtor
